WCW - Val Lopez

Meet Val!

Val was a varsity soccer star in her youth and moved to Seattle shortly after graduating high school. Though desert raised, she felt the call of the ocean and shortly learned how to surf. Fast forward to a move to Maui and her growth to love wind surfing… and learning to love gardening avocados the size of her face.

How do you define the word 'strength'?

Taking on the world with confidence.

How did you discover your passion?

I'm drawn to the ocean and nature. I've always felt that's where I belong.

How do you incorporate movement into your daily lifestyle?

I don't try to incorporate it, it is my lifestyle.

Where would be a good starting point for someone who is looking to add more movements into their life like what you do?

Stretching is a great and easy way to start. If comfortable swimming, try once or twice a week.

Does movement increase your self-confidence? If yes, how?

Absolutely, coupled with a healthy diet you’re unstoppable. You’ve got more energy, are happier and more confident in trying new things.

What motivates the crap out of you?

Waves, lots of waves and sunshine. Other people pushing their limits is badass too.

How do you define 'fitness'?

Happiness. To be in tune with your body is not only physically healthy, but mentally.

Where do you see the future of the fitness?

Keeping up with mobility and core strengths to avoid injury and insure longevity in fitness and health. That way we don't have to give up the sports we love prematurely.

What advice do you wish you could have given your former self?

The only person you need to impress is yourself. Challenging yourself and testing the limits of what is truly you.

Anything else you'd like to share with us?

Taking care of your mind, body, and soul is loving yourself.
