WMC SEATTLE LINE UP
Check out this awesome line up for our Women's Movement Collaborative in Seattle! Now all that's missing is YOU!
DR. C. SHANTE COFIELD [ IT ALL STARTS WITH THE BREATH ]
Breathing: our most functional and foundational movement pattern. Learn how the breath
can be used as an assessment tool, a means to communicate with the nervous system, and
a strategy for creating stability. Join the Maestro on a journey that may not be as sexy as
handstands or as cool as parkour, but let’s face it, if you can’t breathe, you ain’t doing
either of those awesome movements. It all starts with the breath.
DANI ALMEYDA [ RESET YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF ]
You're tired of feeling stiff, achey, and unfocused. Even when you seem to take all the steps to feel your best, something is just missing.... we get it. It's time to learn how to PRESS RESET with an re-introduction to your 'Original Strength'. Dani will take you through some simple movements that will make both your mind and body feel better and can change the course of your day. It feels good to feel good, and bottom line is, YOU were made to feel good and strong for a lifetime.
MANDY JANKUS [ Daring to Be: An Exploration of Values & Vision - based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown]
If you haven't already fallen in love with the teachings of author Brene Brown, Mandy is going to help you this weekend. Together we'll explore topics such as vulnerability, courage, and worthiness, as well as identify our values. We'll examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are holding us back and we'll identify the new choices and practices that will move us toward more authentic and wholehearted living and give us courageous declaration of who we are.
MARYBETH GANGEMI [ EXPLORING NATURAL MOVEMENT & UNLOCKING YOUR PLAYFUL SIDE ]
Marybeth will take us through an exploration of strength, creativity, and cooperative movement. We'll cover a blend of the basic movement techniques from a natural movement framework and discuss what is meant by 'natural movement’. We'll explore ways to build a strong body and a playful spirit while connecting to our natural environment.
DR. JULIE ANGEL [ BREAKING THE JUMP: Build a strong body and mind while conquering fears through Parkour ]
When we see and experience our environment differently we have the possibility and potential to see ourselves differently. We'll explore both the ‘inner excellence’ and physical side of Parkour by learning how to overcome physical and emotional obstacles. The ideas behind Parkour are embedded in a culture of effort so we are all able and can take that first baby step or small jump to see what we are made of. Discover how to make friends with fear and have fun moving in ways that will make you stronger in mind and body.
TRICIA ARCARO + JEN HAMANN [ CONFLICT : A POSITIVE ENDEAVOR ]
This is a non-contact interactive presentation. You will practice your stance, footwork and boxing punches in “shadow boxing” style. Coaches Jen and Tricia will share their knowledge and experiences of conflict in and out of the ring and ask you the participant to share yours. You will gain physical and emotional awareness of what happens during conflict and tools to use to practice staying calm under pressure. Our motto is to get comfortable being uncomfortable so you can actualize your most desired responses when in conflict.
KIRSTY GROSART [ WHY HANDSTANDS MAKE US BETTER AT EVERYTHING]
Handstands require strength and flexibility, but these attributes alone are not what determines if you can balance upside down. Learning to do a handstand is about gaining awareness of what your body is doing. It's about feeling what is going on and developing the control to make adjustments. By practicing handstands mindfully you develop so much more than the ability to balance on your hands. You become more aware of how your body is moving in space. This awareness transfers to everything that you do. *No previous handstand experience and does not require you to go fully upside down.
CAITLIN PONTRELLA [ BUILDING + FOSTERING INTENTIONAL COMMUNITIES ]
Caitlin will help us bring everything we've learned throughout the weekend together by talking about true collaboration, leadership, and how to keep moving forward. We'll explore and connect with each other more deeply and find some new creative options for building up our community back at home.
ALSO EXPECT :
- Group interaction and opportunity to share during our group lead SPARKSTORM on Sunday morning.
- Regular movement and play breakouts throughout the event.
- A delicious group dinner from our friends at Bounty Kitchen.
